As an emerging, award-winning professional glass artist, I work primarily in "cold" and "warm" glass, including stained glass, painted stained glass, mosaic, and fused glass. I've expertly handled creating and repairing custom architectural and religious stained glass in Salt Lake City, Utah since 2019. My practice also explores post-modern glass art using themes of interconnectedness, spirituality, and the nature-human relationship.
Below is a small selection of pieces from a collection of over 60 glass artworks I've created since 2019. Click any link on the left to view the artwork. Purchases and inquiries can be made by emailing info@katejarmangates.art

Stained glass, objects found along the Great Salt Lake

a'ni su ŭnts is the name for spider in the Goshiute dialect of Shoshoni, who are longtime caretakers of the Lake. This Saint's body offers miraculous healing to venerators who remember the life-giving power of the dead. We think of her (lake, spider, sand, water, wood, selenite, salt) as dead. But if we truly let them die, then we all must go with them.

"Interconnected 3" artfully embodies the intricate web of relationships woven throughout our universe, spanning the animate and inert, the vivid and subdued. Just as light filters through fractures in glass and paper, profound bonds emerge when we peer beyond the surface. Each paper and glass piece within this artwork represents a seemingly independent fragment, collectively glued together into a rich, whole cloth.
Glass underscores the fragility and transparency of these ties, reminding us to approach each other and the world with care and compassion. As Thich Nhat Hanh wrote, "By taking care of another person, you take care of yourself. By taking care of yourself, you take care of the other person. Happiness and safety are not individual matters. If you suffer, I suffer. If you are not safe, I am not safe. There is no way for me to be truly happy if you are suffering. If you can smile, I can smile too." If you can see the glass, you can see yourself.

Lovely and Lost explores the artist’s experience of healing from two miscarriages. In a culture where Motherhood is lauded and publicly mourning pregnancy loss is taboo, we who experience pregnancy loss and infertility carry this transformative tension alone. The physical and emotional pain breaks us. When shared openly, the pain shapes us. What are we becoming, if not mothers?

Interconnected 5 uses images of three women of the Abrahamic faiths in an attitude of prayer to invoke the presence of a compassionate God. They are bound together by three quaking aspen branches, great organisms where every tree in a grove shares the same root system. Above them are three orbs engraved with the prayers they utter in the calligraphy of their language: the bismallah salah, the shema yisrael, and I Am that I Am. Together they form a reliquary embrace of the tender, living plant of God's spirit in each of us.
Hebrew calligraphy for the shema yisrael was graciously provided by collaborating artist Ely Greenhut.
